Cochwillan Cottage - Dulas, Anglesey

If you follow me on Facebook you will know that we are just back from a week's holiday on Anglesey.

This is the first of a series of posts about our stay on the island, beginning with our thoughts on Cochwillan Cottage, which was our home for the week.

First impressions ...

We were met by Paul, who showed us the way down to the cottage.

The location was phenomenal!

The cottage is tucked down a narrow lane, at the back of a farm, overlooking the Dulas Estuary and the views back across to Snowdonia were amazing. It almost seemed a shame to go inside.

Once inside it felt very spacious, light and airy and toasty warm.

The large open plan living area had a lovely high ceiling with three roof windows, which kept the place flooded with light.   

The whole property is decorated in a mixture of a seaside and shabby chic style and it all worked really well together.

The lounge area had two comfy sofas with plenty of cushions set around a big open fire.

To the back of the living space on left side is the dining area, with table and chairs

... and to the right is the kitchen with huge wide granite worktops.

Everywhere was spotlessly clean and there was a welcome pack full of treats, as well as a few essentials.

Paul left us to it and we had a good look round, finding two lovely bedrooms, a double and a twin and an equally nice bathroom with a bath with a shower over it.

As the weather was still glorious and the views were amazing, (did I already tell you that?) we decided that we would have a walk down the lane before we started unpacking, which is pretty unheard of for us, so they must have been really impressive.

Eventually we decided that we'd best get unpacked and settled in for our week's stay.

Our likes over the course of our stay ...

• The situation of the cottage - it didn't get any less amazing - the views were to die for in both good and bad weather and with the tide in or out.
• It was so quiet, we loved it. There is just one more cottage that is accessed by driving past Cochwillan and there was no one staying in it whilst we were there, so we didn't see a soul drive past for the duration of our stay.
• The location of the cottage - it was really well placed for getting out and about and visiting all of the places that we wanted to see, both on the island and back over on the mainland.
• It was really easy to control the temperature with plenty of thermostatically controlled heaters, which either heated up or cooled down quickly depending on what we needed.
• We had been a bit concerned about the quality of the Wifi, with the location being quite remote, but we had no problems at all with this.
• The space worked really well for us. Though the living areas are open plan, they are really well defined, so when sitting down after eating, it didn't feel like we were sitting in an untidy kitchen.
• The shower was great, nice and powerful and constant hot water.
• The welcome pack was a real surprise and one of the best that we have had, the chocolate cake was a particular treat.
• The price was good compared to other cottages that we'd looked at, which made it a viable option for just the two of us.

Anything that could have made it better ...

As the week went by we really struggled to find anything that we didn't really like about this cottage. There was just one thing that we could think of that would have made it even better ...

• More available storage in the kitchen area. When we first unpacked we were a little concerned about the lack of available storage in the kitchen area. Being people who like to cook whilst we are away and take lots of cooking equipment and ingredients with us, we were a bit dismayed to find that all cupboard space was completely full, apart from under the sink. However, we had a bit of a jiggle around and did manage to fit everything in, so it wasn't really a problem.

Would we recommend this cottage to our family and friends?

Most definitely, without hesitation.

Would we stay in this cottage again?

Absolutely, though Sage & Sea do have a number of other properties that look just as nice. I am sure if we return to Anglesey again we would be looking at what else is available.
