Tales from Wales #4 :: The Blue Lagoon

Hi there everyone πŸ˜ƒ

We are back to Pembrokeshire for today’s post … It was Wednesday and, after a day having been pretty much confined to barracks because of the weather, we were off on a big adventure.

This time we were heading north … in search of The Blue Lagoon. Neither of us had ever been and we had no real idea of what to expect …
There were certainly some cracking views along the way …

We were soon parked up on the beach and heading off for the coastal path …
There weren’t many steps and it was a good path so Martin did ok on his crutches …
The views were fabulous …

… and we certainly wouldn’t be needing to take heed of this advice …

It was only a short walk before we got our first glimpse of ‘the lagoon’, which was formerly the main slate quarry of the St Brides Slate Company and was active up until 1910. The slate gives a brilliant aqua blue colour to the water. It is a popular spot for coasteering and climbing along the cliffs at sea level …

It really was a beautiful spot …

We went up a bit further … just for the view …
… and for the obligatory windswept selfie …

… making sure to keep well away from the edge …
… before retracing our steps for one last look …
After making our way back to the car the plan was to head to St David’s … once there we found it was really busy and couldn’t find a parking space anywhere so ended up taking the very narrow coast road round to Solva … where we managed to find a spot to park on the quay …

We stopped for lunch and a bit of a mooch before heading for home …

  1. Hi there - popped across from Sue in Suffolk's blog. The Blue Pool looks lovely (think I saw it on tv once). Solva we've not been to for about 4 or 5 years now. It doesn't look to have changed.

  2. Lovely spot, very busy with divers jumping from the rocky ledges when we went. I can’t believe there was no one there. We liked Porthgain too.

    1. Jumping wasn’t allowed when we went as the actual lagoon was closed as it was seal pupping time but I can imagine that would be fascinating sight to see πŸ˜ƒ

  3. I remember watching a programme with Susan Calman where she tombstone jumped into the water from the far side - there was an awful lot of theatrical shrieking and pseudo fear - it sort of distracted from the stark industrial beauty of the place. Nice to see it calm and still on your photos

    1. Now you mention it I do seem to recall seeing Susan jumping in somewhere in a wetsuit … I’d forgotten about it. Yes it was lovely to see it nice and calm … I imagine it’s completely different with people jumping in all over the place πŸ˜ƒ

Thanks for taking time to comment on my blog. I love to hear what people think about what Martin and I have been up to.
