Lodge Life :: September 2026

Hi there everyone 😀

On 1st September Jackie and Phil joined us at the lodge for a few days stay.

There was rain forecast for our first full day so we headed for another visit to the garden centre that sells everything at Treborth and then onto Penrhyn Castle.

In the end the weather wasn’t too bad …
Penrhyn Castle is always impressive … the plaster carvings are just phenomenal … especially around the central staircase …
From Penrhyn we headed over to Anglesey to try out The Victoria for a late lunch and very nice it was too.

We ended up having a lovely day … missing any rain and still managing to do plenty.

The following day the weather looked a bit more promising and we headed over to Llanberis where we had a walk up to the old Quarry Hospital …
The views looking out from the hospital across the lake are always pretty spectacular …
The walk back down takes us past the bottom of the old slate wagon track …
We had a pitstop in the steam railway station cafe before heading up for a quick look at the Vivian Quarry …
… and then headed to the other side of the village for a short walk along the river to the Ceunant waterfall …
… which was in full flow following all the rain we’d had …
We spent Jackie and Phil’s last full day doing a bit of an extended wander at Trefor … something we’ve been meaning to do for ages and is definitely worthy of a ‘Walk with us’ post …
They headed for home the following day … but not before making our usual breakfast visit to Spooners cafe at the steam railway station in Porthmadog … that has definitely become a bit of a tradition …
We managed three more big days out before coming home ourselves.

Our first was to Harlech Castle … which is in a spectacular spot …
Our second was another good ‘Walk with us’ wander to St Cybi’s Well and the trig point beyond …
Our last day out was a trip on the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway … something we’d been meaning to do for a while …
It’s just a short trip on the steam train …
At the end of the line we all got off and watched the engine switch ends to pull us back …
… with a stop off at the yard at Gelert’s Farm …
… where there’s a bit of a museum … with plenty to see …
There’s also a miniature railway … which Martin managed to squeeze himself into …
We couldn’t resist another visit to Spooners … this time for lunch …
That was the end of our summer adventures in North Wales … it certainly had been a good one 🌞🌞🌞

We will be back in the autumn 🍁🍁🍁

  1. You always manage to pack in soooo much in your jollies to Wales - mind you, looking at your posts and photos, there is a tremendous amount to see and visit.
looking forward to another walk with me soon :) x

    1. It amazes me that after all this time we still keep finding new things to see and do. We certainly have no regrets about the location we chose. There are a couple more walk with me posts on the way … a nice short coastal circular and a yomp to a trig 😜

Thanks for taking time to comment on my blog. I love to hear what people think about what Martin and I have been up to.
