Exploring :: Heading for Home via Llangollen

Hi there everyone 😀

Whilst nowadays when we journey to North Wales we tend to go via, what we call, the mountain route … in previous years we’ve tended to stick with the A5 through Llangollen … but have never actually stopped in the town.

We’ve always thought how lovely it looks and how we would really love to stop and have a good look round so this time we decided it was finally time to come back that way and spend a couple of hours exploring.

We opted for a car park fairly close to the river and had a short wander through the streets of the town, which was actually far bigger than with expected. There are lots of little shops and plenty of places to eat. We opted for lunch at The Corn Mill, which is right on the river and we managed to find a table with fabulous views …
We had a wander over the river to have a look at the station but were disappointed to find it closed for the day …
We didn’t stay too long as I also wanted to go and have a look at The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct … another place neither of us have ever been.

It’s a really nice place to visit with plenty of parking and facilities, a visitor centre and the chance for a boat ride across the aqueduct if you fancy it …
The Aqueduct itself was fascinating … very, very high …
It’s certainly not for the faint hearted and we only walked a short way across the narrow path before returning with very wobbly legs. We didn’t fancy the walk down to the bottom either to take what I think would have been the most fabulous photos but we did manage these views as we were driving away …
I’m really glad we decided to visit. It was definitely worth the detour and great to get to see another couple of beautiful new and interesting places 😀
