Lodge Life :: July & August 2023

Hi there everyone 😀

We managed a lovely long three week break at the lodge in July. It was that time when Europe was suffering with an extreme heatwave and, whilst I wouldn’t have wanted it quite that hot, we were feeling a little hard done by.

The forecast looked constantly gloomy though, fortunately, it wasn’t always accurate and we did see far more sunshine than we’d been expecting.

Our three week stay was interspersed with visits from family and friends and there was plenty of exploring and getting out and about, along with hunkering down and chilling out when the weather was at its worse.

I know I’ve already shared lots of what we got up to when we had visitors so thought for this lodge life post I’d just focus more on the moments in between.

So … here we go ..

Our first full week was spent exploring the beaches of Abersoch, lunch at Zipworld and a long weekend doing lots of exploring with David, Alison and Bobby.

After David, Alison and Bobby had headed for home the rain finally came … lots of it. We spent a couple of days getting straight, chilling out … reading, blogging, eating junk and generally just lolling about.
After two full days of not doing much at all and not really stepping outside of the lodge we felt we really ought make a bit of an effort and go somewhere.

Checking the tide times and seeing they were in our favour we opted for a drive to Porth Ysgaden for another seaglass hunt …
We weren’t disappointed …
We then just had a bit of a meander around, checking out the Coastal Cafe at Porth Colmon and a bit of a green lane to find a National Trust car park we’d not noticed before …
We then had a quick call in at Aberdaron for an ice cream on our way back home … with a bit of a detour via Boduan to see how the preparations were going for this year’s Eisteddford, which was being held literally just down the road from our lodge park …
The following day we finally checked out caffi Largo in Pwllheli for the first time for breakfast … which was a real treat …
It was then time for another visit to Asda to stock up for Jo and Steve’s visit at the weekend … followed by a lazy afternoon of reading and just watching the world go by …
Whilst the weather wasn’t so good for Jo and Steve’s visit we did manage to still get out and about and had a lovely weekend … which you can read about here

After Jo and Steve had headed for home I was in desperate need of more reading material so we had a ride to Caernarfon where we had lunch in The Four Alls and a good wander round and I managed a quick visit to The Works for some new paperbacks to keep me going.

We had a good walk round the castle walls and got to see the swing bridge in operation for the first time …

On what ended up being the last day of fine weather before heading to home we decided to have a day out on Anglesey.

We had contemplated a sunflower trail but decided we could see enough from the road …
We then just really bimbled along the coast … hoping for lunch at the cafe at the end of Benllech beach but were gutted to find it closed …
We ended up eating at The Tavern on the Bay, which was very nice …
That was about it then for this visit … other than a quick visit to Plas Heli for a look at the view …
On the Monday we headed for home with a final bit of exploring in Llangollen

We weren’t sure when we would be back as August was taken up with a trip to Cornwall and Devon for a very special wedding  … which I’m sure I will tell you all about very soon 💜
