It’s Friday and time to catch up with Astrid’s weekly photo scavenger hunt ... this week’s theme is Earth, tying in nicely with yesterday’s Earth day.
Finally we have had a few days of sunshine and warmer temperatures which have spurred us on to do a few bits in the garden and to get a bit more planting done.
Yesterday I just happened to notice that the flowering Cherry was in full bloom ... it’s right at the back of the pergola and unless we go down there we don’t tend to notice it, but it is looking stunning ... we obviously didn’t really think it through when it got stuck in the corner ...
We also managed to pot up all of the summer annuals that we picked up from Aldi last week. They are all looking really healthy and I’m starting to let them spend their days in the sunshine, though we have had frosts overnight so I keep bringing them back in at teatime ...
The cobea we planted back in January are more than ready to plant out but it is still too cold. I really hope they make it through to May as they are really far too tall for their current pots. I have tried putting them out during the day but they really haven’t liked it at all ...
We have started a few more bits off ... parsnips, beetroot, coriander, sunflowers, cosmos, basil and French climbing beans ... these are all in the greenhouse and we have a few signs of life ...
I did try a sacrificial tomato plant in the greenhouse overnight, but it was most definitely too cold, so it looks like our kitchen will be full of seedlings for a little while longer ... I just hope they don’t get too mollycoddled and struggle when I finally get to plant them out.
That’s all from me for today ... I am finally off to the hairdresser for a long overdue cut and colour ... so hopefully the grey will be banished and I will be able to face the world again π

What a lovely lot of seedlings of all varieties you have ready to plant out. I see you also use toilet roll inners - we have beans planted in ours. Good luck with it all. x
ReplyDeleteI just hope they all make it as some seem to have stopped growing since we potted them on. We always start saving the toilet roll tubes after Christmas ... they are great for beans and sweet peas especially π
DeleteI can't believe how many little plants/seedings you have. Rather you than me! Years ago I grew a lot of things but not any more as I find it too time consuming.... I have noticed quite a few plants in my garden have been damaged by some late fronts, grrrr. Your flowering cherry tree looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteIt can be a bit time consuming but it’s quite gentle Pottering. You are right it is time consuming but we have had plenty of that lately. It just gets frustrating at times when stuff fails, luckily we haven’t had any frost damage to what we’ve planted but have lost a few old favourites. π
ReplyDeleteyou are a good gardener
ReplyDeleteThanks Elena ... it’s a bit hit and miss sometimes but we do enjoy the results of the efforts we put in π
DeleteYou certainly have a lot of seedlings and young plants to deal with. I love the cherry tree, the blossoms look very pretty :)
ReplyDeleteI know ... it’s a bit like the Hokey Cokey here at the moment ... they are constantly in and out π
DeleteYou are very busy with your seedlings & put me to shame these days, though I usually buy seedlings instead of sowing seeds. Lazy probably but I find our weather very fickle & timing is so crucial for veg. Enjoy & thanks for sharing. Take care & hugs.
ReplyDeleteWe did buy the hanging basket plants as plugs and just potted them on ... for some reason I’ve never tried growing those myself. We tend to stick with vegetables and annuals like cosmos π
DeleteOh wow, I'm impressed! I've only been able to grow cherry tomatoes and some hot peppers, and certainly not from seed! Everything looks wonderful, I hope you'll share what it looks like when they're ready to eat.
ReplyDeleteLovely Cherry tree, such a beautiful colour.
We tend to have mixed results with tomatoes ... some years we are inundated and others they are a bit lacklustre. It’s our first time growing peppers and chillis for a while as we haven’t had much luck in the past. We always tend to do well with French climbing beans though. Will definitely keep you posted with harvests π
