In late August we were heading to Ilfracombe for my eldest Goddaughter, Rachel’s wedding. In an effort to avoid travelling on the August Bank Holiday weekend we decided to extend our holiday, spending a few days in Bude first, where the rest of the family were already holidaying.
As we were only staying a few days we were being very kindly hosted by my sister, Sarah and her partner Mark … and very good hosts they were indeed. I only hope we were sufficiently good enough guests to be invited again π
We really only had a couple of full days so decided to stay pretty local … with our first full day taking in Boscastle …
All we really did was have a bit of a bimble. Martin, Alison, mum and I took the easier path along the left hand side of the river … though Alison and I did go a little way along the right hand side first … hoping to see the red hot pokers …The others … Mark, Sarah, David and Bobby were heading for Queen Victoria’s head, which you can see towards the top in the middle of the above photo.
Alison and I retraced our steps and went over the bridge …
… we left mum on a bench in the sunshine and carried on out to the harbour wall …… where we could see the others making their way back on the other side …
We made our way back along the rocky path and picked mum up from the bench … where she’d been ‘resting her eyes’ in the sunshine … and we all met back up on the bridge. It was definitely time for a lunch stop so we made our way back into the village and had lunch sitting in the sunshine outside The Toby Jug.
We left Boscastle and Sarah, Mark, Martin and I had a quick stop off at Crackington Haven on our way back to Bude … where we were all meeting up again later for a meal at The Brendon.
After dinner we had a wander along the canal …
… to the lock gates to take in the sunset …
… try to recreate last year’s lock gate family selfie …It really is the loveliest spot for messing about …The following day we just hung around Bude. It started out wet as we mooched round the farmers’ market but dried up enough for crazy golf …
We had a good mooch round the town centre before finishing our day off by heading over to Crooklets beach for pizza at Rosie’s …The next morning we were heading off to Ilfracombe but we all met up for a lovely breakfast at The Cornish Coast before we said our good byes.
We made one final pit stop to one of our favourite spots before finally making our way to North Devon …
I’m so glad we decided to tag on the few extra days. We’d had a lovely time and I always forget how much I love Bude until I’m back there … and it’s always good fun when everybody gets to spend some real quality time together.
I will be back soon from Ilfracombe π°♀️ππ°♀️π
