Whilst we were in The Peak District for the weekend, with Jackie and Phil, we had a big day out planned; and after a full English we were on our way to Chatsworth.
First stop was the garden centre for a bit of Christmas shopping …
From here we headed on to the parking for the Christmas at Chatsworth event …
We started off with a good wander around the Christmas market, which was very busy, but a real festive experience … with lots of music, plenty of food and lots of stalls all decorated for Christmas selling all kinds of lovely things …
It all felt really festive and after a good walk round the market and a quick visit to the shop, which was incredibly busy, we arrived at the entrance to the house just in time for our slot …
The weather had been absolutely glorious, we couldn’t have hoped for better, and as we went into the house the sun was just beginning to drop …
Martin and I have visited the Chatsworth Christmas event before but it was Jackie and Phil’s first time and there was plenty to impress …
There were so many trees, so many baubles and twinkly lights … and lots of tiny mice to be found … it was magical …

Whilst things were very busy … the timed slots worked well and we had time to see everything and it wasn’t too crowded.
Once we’d made our way through and out of the house we stopped for a quick drink before exploring the garden light trail. There was still a good amount of light and we really wanted it to get a bit darker …
There is a well signed trail around the gardens taking you first up to the cascades … where it was still a little too light to see things at their best but it still looked very pretty …Once we’d made our way through and out of the house we stopped for a quick drink before exploring the garden light trail. There was still a good amount of light and we really wanted it to get a bit darker …
As we carried on round the trail and into the rock garden the light suddenly dropped dramatically and it was pretty magical … the bouncing white lights reminded me very much of the Avatar movie …
… where we were treated to the grand finale of a fabulous light show …It was then just a short walk alongside the house to end up back we started from … where the lights were looking even more spectacular in the real dark …
… and the atmosphere in the market had changed completely …All that was left for us to do was revisit some of the food stalls we’d spied earlier to pick up a few tasty bits to take back for tea.
Whilst it’s not the cheapest of days out we were all really glad we’d been. It had been a real treat … and really started to bring on the Christmas spirit … but we were definitely ready for a nice cosy evening back at Hillcrest Barn π

ReplyDeleteIt really is a lovely start to the festive season. I think it’s the third time we’ve been and it’s different enough each time to keep it being a surprise at every turn π
