We had a lovely two week break at the lodge in April … just after the Easter holidays, when all was a little quieter.
The plans were for Jackie and Phil to join us for a few days but, sadly, they were down with a very bad case of the lurgy, so couldn’t make it. We did our best to make the most of it … sending plenty of updates and photos of beautiful sunshine and mountain views.
It ended up being a really good visit, with some unexpected warmth and sunshine and plenty of new walks tried out. In fact, although we’ve had the lodge for four years, pretty much everything we did in April was new to us both.
We certainly packed plenty in so … you might want to grab a cuppa and a comfy chair for this one.
After settling in … our first full day was spent doing a lovely, but fairly challenging walk above Nant Gwrtheyrn, which was the topic of my first ‘Walk with us’ post …

The following day we had lots of rain so headed into Criccieth for a mooch round the gift shops … in search of a birthday present for a friend. Of course, we couldn’t go to Criccieth without going to see the latest efforts from the local creative ladies …
We carried on to Porthmadog for a nip into Tesco, before heading to the station for a cuppa in Spooners.
On Sunday the sunshine was back and we headed to a local woodland in search of bluebells for another walk … not quite so challenging this time …

On Monday we surprised ourselves with yet another walk … totally unplanned this time … and found ourselves at Gimblet Rock …
We then had a couple of days confined to barracks. The weather wasn’t brilliant and Martin managed to get all of the windows cleaned. We also had the annual visit from Llyr to complete the lodge boiler safety check and service.
By Thursday we were more than ready for another excursion and this time we did a bit of a coastal walk to the Beach Bar at Llanbedrog, followed by a bit of shopping at Lavender House … a favourite place for a mooch …

We had another lodge day on the Friday … spending the evening meeting up with local friends for a curry at Bombay Joe’s in Nefyn … another favourite.
Saturday was another lovely day and we made our first use of this year’s Gardeners’ World two for one card with a visit to Glynllifon Park … somewhere we have driven past more times than I can remember … this will be the subject of my next ‘Walk with us’ post …

On Sunday we had a big day out to the seaside. We headed to Rhos on Sea …somewhere we’d not visited before since having the lodge and we’d been wanting to go for ages.
It’s about an hour’s drive from where we are based, the sun was shining and we were looking forward to exploring. We started out by parking up by St Trillo’s Chapel … considered to be the smallest church in Britain.
It certainly is tiny …

We picked up a leaflet for the heritage trail which took us around some lovely looking traditional residential streets with the most beautifully kept gardens …
It was then back to the car and along the coastal path road to Llandudno where we finally found the route to drive up the Great Orme, without using the toll road …
It was glorious up there and the views were fabulous …

… before finally heading back to the lodge.
On Monday we were supposed to be spending the day cleaning and getting ready to head for home on the Tuesday. It was such a lovely day we decided we would head out and perhaps do the chores when we got back.
We ended up having a bit of an epic walk … taking the Watkin Path up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) … as far as the waterfalls. It was so beautiful and there is another ‘Walk with Us’ post pending …

Safe to say that by the time we got back we most definitely did not feel like cleaning … or doing very much at all.
We actually ended up having a slow day of chores on the Tuesday and stayed another night … heading for home on the Wednesday. I think that’s the first time we’ve done that but we are so glad that we made that decision 😀

Good to hear that you had another unplanned walk and I loved the little chapel. It reminded me of Greek churches - and the sea reminded me of Greece too. It was so blue. Glad you stayed another day. It's hard to get used to being able to do things like that, isn't it, after a life of working! x
