Random Ramblings :: What’s for Dinner?

Hi there everyone ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

I’m just dropping by with a quick one for today.

Have you seen this doing the rounds on Facebook and Pinterest?

I have to say that it has definitely begun to resonate with me of late. Martin and I tend to spend time sitting on a Thursday trying to decide what we want to have for dinner for the following week and sometimes it’s really easy ... sometimes we just don’t really know what we fancy. He’ll say curry ... I go mmmmm not sure, I’ll go lasagne ... he’ll say what ... again.

I’d seen this idea somewhere on t’internet about writing all the options on lolly sticks and then just basically pulling them out and whatever came out was what was for dinner.

Well ... I’d got some craft sticks in the craft cupboard so thought we’d give it a go. I had no trouble at all filling them all including a few new favourites picked up from our recent Gousto deliveries.

I decided that I’d colour code the sticks ... red for meat, green for poultry and blue for fish, so we could try and get a bit of a balance and proceeded to spend a pleasant afternoon with my Sharpies. I also threw in a few ‘you choose’ wildcards just to try and keep it interesting.

I went back to the craft cupboard for a couple of pretty jam jars I’d decorated a while ago and we were in business ...

I decided that we’d start with all the sticks in one jar and then as they get selected I’d move them to the other, so we didn’t end up getting repeats too quickly.

We’ve been doing it a couple of weeks now and I have to say it’s been working well. We tend to decide if there’s something we really fancy and if we are eating out first ... and then pick from the jar for the days that are left. It’s certainly speeded up our Thursday  sessions deciding what we fancy.

This is what’s on the menu for this week ...

It’s early days so whether or not we will stick with it ... only time will tell. But, for now, it’s made a boring weekly necessity just a little bit more interesting ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
