It’s Friday and time to link up with Astrid again for this week’s photo scavenger hunt. The word for this week is … apple π
The only photos that immediately sprung to mind were these ...
Not the prettiest I know … and I apologise profusely if you are eating ... but taken on a lovely autumnal walk when we stayed in a cottage in Biddestone, not far from Bath. And these guys were quite happy with the quality ...
We did used to have a braeburn apple tree in the garden, which did quite well for a few years. It was one of those problems though ... seemed a good idea at the time but it was the often found case of wrong tree, wrong place and it got too big and it had to go ... I think 2014 was the last year we had fruit from it ...
I did wonder if I might have any pictures taken in orchards from our many garden visits over the years and whilst pickings were pretty meagre I did manage to find a few …
Coughton Court - July 2018
Snowshill Manor - August 2018
I did manage to find a few culinary pics ...
This is one I took when we were on holiday in Wales … a lazy apple crumble, made with a bag of pre-mixed crumble mix from Tesco, which was delicious … can’t see me hand making crumble mix ever again …
... and this was our breakfast on Wednesday … apple pie pancakes …
I do have a few tubs of this still left in the freezer ... stewed homegrown cooking apples and blueberries which are earmarked for another lazy crumble for Sunday when Lesley and Tom are coming for lunch ... it will be the first time we've had 'guests' inside the house since before the first lockdown, so that will be lovely.

It will be made even more exciting as we are making plans for our wintry Northumberland break in December ...
And finally ... a spot of hand stitched applique that I did a few years ago ...

Lovely pictures as usual. I must look out for ready made crumble mix. I have made B a plum crumble in half the dish and apple for myself. I must do it again. Northumberland...how lovely. Never been in December. We always went either end of September or in spring. Happy planning. ππ
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes ready made crumble is definitely a game changer. We’ve not been in December either but looking forward to hunkering down against the elements … as well as getting out and about too of course π
DeleteI gave up making crumble mix using the rubbing in method. Years ago a friend gave me this recipe: 5 oz SR flour, 4 oz sugar, 3 oz marg, 2 oz biscuits crumbs, 1 oz ground almonds. Put all into a mini chopper and whiz well. Spread on top and cook! It is a wonderful crumble. The apple pie pancakes look wonderful but my favourite photo is the pig (I do like pigs!).
ReplyDeleteThat sounds good … I may just give it a go π
DeletePigs do love apples as do donkeys, two of which I got to visit again after 7 months & fed them an apple each and had lots of pats & cuddles with them Never though of taking the camera and capturing it for the hunt. Silly me! Have you ever had a few leftover bought scotch fingers from making the base for a cheesecake? They also work well for individual crumbles in ramekins. I've a small patch of rhubarb and just make enough for K & I occasionally. Enjoy your visitors, take care & hugs.
ReplyDeleteI’ve not come across Scotch fingers before but I had considered trying a sprinkling of granola to see what that worked like. We are having to have a new boiler fitted tomorrow so I’m hoping all goes well or we could be shivering at the dinner table on Sunday. Take care π
DeleteAnother one I almost missed. I'm glad to hear those apples weren't wasted, and enjoyed by someone! So many delicious looking apples on that one tree. All of your dishes look yummy, who knew you can buy crumble mix?! I haven't seen it here, but I don't think crumbles are very popular here although I enjoy making them. Your applique looks great!
ReplyDeleteThank you Astrid … supermarket crumble mix is definitely a winner π
