Exploring :: The Wye Valley #1 ... Westbury Court Garden

Hi there everyone 😀

Back in July we had a week away in The Wye Valley. We stayed at an AirBNB in the tiny village of Ruardean, not far from Ross-on-Wye. Our first weekend was spent having our annual catch up with old work colleagues, who were staying in Ross, with the rest of the week for us to do a bit more exploring.

As we couldn't access our cottage until late afternoon we decided to visit Westbury Court Garden, which was kind of on the way. It's a small garden owned by the National Trust, who describe the garden as being the finest example of a Dutch style water garden in the UK ... we were intrigued and couldn't wait to explore ...

Once inside the garden this is pretty much the view that you get ... along the Long Canal ...
We had a wander along the canal and down to the bottom for the view looking back up to the pavilion ...
Then we headed across the bottom of the garden, alongside the herbaceous border which runs along the red brick wall which shields the garden from the main road ...
We then found ourselves in a tiny but pretty walled garden ...
... where we found the perfect spot for our picnic lunch ...
Refreshed, we continued to make our way around the garden ...
I couldn't resist spending time with the globe artichokes which are a real favourite of mine to photograph ...
And that was it ... we were back at the top of the canal by the pavilion where we had started.

The time was just right for us to head to our holiday cottage to see what we would find. Quirky is the best word I can find for it ... not quite what we were expecting, but we did our best to settle in ...
... before heading into Ross-on-Wye to meet up with our friends for dinner ...

Thanks for taking time to comment on my blog. I love to hear what people think about what Martin and I have been up to.
