Lodge Life :: July 2024

Hi there everyone 😀

We had a lovely long break at the lodge during July … staying for just over three weeks. It was a lovely mixture of meeting up with friends and family, days out exploring and lazy days around the lodge just chilling out.

We arrived on a Monday to blue sky and sunshine … but the forecast, as seems to be always the case at the moment, didn’t look very promising …
We didn’t do much for our first few days … a bit of shopping, a few odd jobs around the lodge … cleaning all the glass around the decking, putting up a tool rack in the broom cupboard … and a bit of general lolling about.

On the Thursday our friends were arriving for our annual catch up … one couple, Jude & Rob, were staying nearby in their touring caravan and the other couple, Sue & Phil, in a B&B … also not too far away …
We met up on the Thursday evening at Y Bryncynan for a meal and a good old catch up, where we made our plans for the next few days.

As usual we managed to pack plenty in … including visits to Llanbedrog, Abersoch and Morfa Nefyn, where we had a lovely walk and lunched on the beach at Ty Coch …
On the Sunday Sue & Phil headed for home, whilst Jude & Rob were staying for the following week. We had a very lazy day not doing very much at all … other than watching both the Wimbledon men’s final and the final of the Euros … not something you would normally find us doing but it did make for a very relaxing afternoon and evening.

It was Tuesday before we really ventured out again. We didn’t go far. We started off in Nefyn where we’d caught the sunset over the weekend and I wanted to try and take some photos of the flowers growing by the car park … as they’d not shown up on my sunset photos …
From here we had a ride up the coast to Nant Gwrtheyrn, where we just keep on finding new photo opportunities …
We met up with Jude & Rob and had breakfast in Caffi Menir before heading over to Criccieth, hoping to find some sunshine ☀️

We weren’t disappointed and Martin and I enjoyed a wander on the beach on the north side of the castle …
… before moving on to the south side …
The yarn bombers had been out in full force in celebration of the RNLI …
… and the hydrangeas were in full bloom …
It was then back to the lodge for us for a lovely dip in the pool …
The weather was lovely again on Wednesday and we headed to Towyn Beach near Tudweiliog, where we found a bench with a view for a while …
We moved on from Towyn to Porth Ysgaden …
… and Porth Cychod where we had our picnic lunch before having a bit of a wander out to the fisherman’s hut …
… where we saw a seal enjoying the sunshine. I know it looks like a rock but it is most definitely a seal …
We had another sit in the sunshine at the old customs house, watching the sheep this time …
… before heading for home …
On Thursday we had a day around the lodge but headed into Criccieth for the evening for fish and chips …
… and to see the weekly lifeboat launch practice … something we have wanted to do for ages … but have always previously been thwarted by the weather …
On Friday we were off out again … this time we were heading for Llandanwg … somewhere we hadn’t been before.

We found a spot on the way with the most fabulous views across to Portmeirion … the perfect spot for lunch, but not for us today …
Having passed the fabulous beach at Harlech …
… We had our picnic lunch on the beach at Llandanwg …
There’s not a lot there but there is a lovely little old church that was definitely worth investigating …
It was a lovely little spot … surrounded by wild flowers …
… with the ever present mountains in the distance …
We had a very quick call in at Harlech on the way back just to see what was there. I think it’s somewhere we will probably come back to for a longer visit another time …
On Saturday it pretty much rained all day and we just had another lazy day in the lodge before a couple of days of shopping and getting ready for David, Alison and Bobby, who were all coming to stay for a few days.

We did manage to find a new beach spot … Careg a Defaid … which was beautiful and nice and quiet … but very stony …
David, Alison and Bobby’s visit was a fun packed four days full of all kinds of weather and all kinds of activity. You can read more about what we got up to here …
We then dialled the pace down to sedate for the rest of our stay … with a nice lunch in the sunshine at Nant Gwrtheyrn …
… and one last day out to Plas yn Rhiw … a National Trust garden fairly close by …
Our last day out ended up with me finally getting to have a paddle … on Llanbedrog beach …
That was it for July. It had been a lovely long break full of friends and family, adventures and down time and we even got to see some sunshine ☀️. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we are back again 😀
