National Trust :: At Wightwick Manor & Gardens

Hi there everyone 😀

We’ve been saying we must have a garden visit with Jackie & Phil for ages and a couple of weeks ago we finally managed to all be available at the same time … so discussions started around where we should go.

We didn’t really want to travel for more than an hour and two options made the short list … Wightwick Manor and Blists Hill Victorian Town. Blists Hill is one of the Ironbridge museums, which has recently been taken on by the National Trust, and just happened to be reopening on the day we had earmarked for our big day out.

If was a close run thing, but the garden won out in the end. We will most definitely get to Blists Hill though … it is very much high on the list of places we want to visit.

It was a grey start to the day and we’d had a few spots of rain, but it was dry when we arrived … so we decided to start with the gardens …
As ever … we ended up saying we must come back … to see the promise of what was yet to come …
We did a bit of a woodland walk …
… and saw the goslings …
… before finding a comfy bench for a breather …
Next stop was the house … which was a real treat … stuffed full of William Morris furnishings. It really is easy to imagine it in use as a family home … and a very nice family home at that …
Back outside and the grey skies had been replaced by blue and plenty of sunshine …
We had lunch in the courtyard before a mooch round the shop and a look at the mathematical bridge …
It was then back across the front of the house to finish our visit … it really is such a pretty house …
