Isle of Wight Holiday Diary #12 - Needles ... that you can not thread!

Hi there everyone 😀

I know it must feel like I have been sharing posts about the Isle of Wight forever, but there really is just so much to see on the island. We are currently at day 15 of our three week holiday back in September last year and are re-visiting some of the sights with mum and dad ...

Day 15 - Saturday
We just couldn't have let mum and dad go home without having visited The Needles, but the weather forecast was definitely against us. On the Saturday there was no rain forecast, just 50 knot winds!!

We decided we would risk it anyway and just see how we got on ... after all ... wind was definitely preferable to rain.

We got parked up and headed for the viewpoint at the bottom ... oh my goodness, we nearly got blown off our feet on the viewing platform ... we could only imagine what it would be like up at the top.

It seemed a bit crazy but we boarded The Breezer for a trip up top ... we just couldn’t not show mum and dad what is sold as the best view of The Needles.
We took in that view ... which I will never tire of ...
... and yes ... it was pretty blowy up there ...
We had another good look round the New Battery before considering roping ourselves together to head down the cliff to the Old Battery ...
As we entered the parade ground we were warned to keep to the side as it really was blowing a hooley, though only 50% of the 100 knot winds that they have recorded in the past.

The Old Battery is really fascinating and definitely well worth a visit. As we'd visited before I didn't take many photos but we did mange to see everything ... including the tunnel down to the searchlight ... for what I believe is absolutely the best view of The Needles to be had ... from land anyway ...

Of course we managed a quick visit to the tea room for sustenance and warm up before getting blown back up the road to wait for our ride back down ...
We decided to finish the day off with a ride back to Totland Bay for a walk along the sea front to Colwell Bay where we stopped for light refreshments ...

By now we were all more than ready to head back to Bramble Cottage to get settled and cosy for Strictly 😀
