A Week in The Yorkshire Dales #7 :: Stainforth Force and Home

Hi there everyone πŸ˜€

Welcome to the last of the series of posts from our break in The Yorkshire Dales back in May. It was Friday and we were homeward bound, but we weren't really ready for home so decided we could just fit one last waterfall fix in.

We decided to head for Stainforth Force, then perhaps have lunch in Settle before tossing a coin to decide whether to head for home via the M1 or the M6.

The first totally unexpected treat for me was coming across the Ribblehead Viaduct, something I've always wanted to see, but didn't really have a clue that we would be passing it ... of course, we had to stop. It was a bit dull and grey and I have seen far better photos, but this was the best we could do on the day ...

When we got to Stainforth neither of us really felt like walking far, though we really didn't want to go home without seeing the falls, so we opted for a drive down to the falls and over the packhorse bridge. Well, it was a little bit hairy. A very narrow lane leading down to the valley, with no real passing places and a very narrow bridge that Martin was very dubious about ...
We just about squeezed over, with not much room to spare at all and were soon parked up and ready to explore.

It was a really lovely spot ... the bridge was a real beauty ...

It was a short walk along the river to the falls, which did not disappoint ...

It really was beautiful. No one else around, perfect for picnics and paddling, with the bridge as a backdrop. It may have been the last waterfall of our holiday, but it was certainly one of our favourites ...

We didn't stay long and retraced our steps back to the bridge ...

... where I stopped for a quick look over, and you really would have no clue what a delight there was waiting to be discovered ...
... and one last holiday selfie ...

So that was it ... it really was time to head for home, with just a quick pitstop for lunch in Settle, before ending up losing the toss, though we didn't realise at the time, and heading for the M1.

We both really love The Dales and I'm sure it won't be that long before we are back ... there are still lots of waterfalls waiting to be discovered.

I hope you've enjoyed following our Yorkshire adventures ... next stop ... The Peak District ... I hope to see you there πŸ˜€

  2. Wow, wow, wow!!!! Love the photos you've taken & I've also visited this area many times. Love Ribblehead & have been both under it and on it (in a train of course), but never seen those falls, so thanks for sharing with us. Brings back so many memories as you've taken us on your Yorkshire Dales holiday. Look forward to seeing some of you Peak District trip too and did you get to Crich? Take care & hugs.

    1. Those falls were really lovely. I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed a trip down memory Lane. We didn’t get to Crich on our Peak District trip but did have a good mixture of countryside, villages and a beautiful garden that we’d never seen before. X
